*Special stitches
Color change dc / ccdc : Using the current color, yo, insert hook in the st, yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, yo with new color, draw through last 2 lps of st to complete the dc with the new color. (The loop on the hook will be the top of the next stitch!)
How to make the peppermints:
Round 1: Make a magic circle, chain 3 (counts as first dc), in magic circle make 11 dc. Pull magic circle closed. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
Round 2: Chain 3 (counts as a dc) In the same stitch, make a ccdc (see special stitches) using the other yarn color of your choice. You should now have your second color on your hook and 2 dc completed in the first dc. In the next stitch, *dc and ccdc. Repeat from * with a dc and a ccdc in each stitch. At the end, you should have 24 dc alternating in colors by two all the way around. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. Finish off and weave in the ends. Make as many peppermints as you like, depending on how long you want your garland to be. (I made 7 peppermints and the garland is 63 inches long. Each additional peppermint will add 8 inches of chain to your garland.)
Joining the peppermints to make garland:
Using the color you want for the garland chain, *Chain 30. Pick up a peppermint and slip stitch through the top of one of the dc to attach to the chain. Repeat from * until all peppermints are connected. Chain 30. Finish off!
